National Sleep Day®

As part of the 24th national sleep day, the sleep disorders exploration and treatment unit , the physical medicine and rehabilitation department , sports medicine , the sports health center and the cross-sectional nutrition unit clinic as well as the UNICAEN – INSERM U1237 and UMR -S 1075 COMETE and the UFR STAPS offer you an afternoon of conferences and activities around the theme “Sleep, sports and nutrition”.

Sleep management at the University Hospital

The CHU's sleep disorders exploration and treatment unit is a multidisciplinary sleep center that has been approved by the French Society for Research and Sleep Medicine since 2008, and has been certified as a mixed child/adult center since June 2023. .

Its main mission is the management of sleep disorders in adults and children: consultations, explorations and treatments.

  • Specialized consultations (pneumology, neurology, psychiatry, pediatrics, neuropediatrics)
  • Explorations: ventilatory polygraphy, polysomnography, vigilance tests, in dedicated hospitalization rooms with paramedical staff specifically trained in these techniques.
  • Treatments: implementation and monitoring of nocturnal ventilation by continuous positive pressure, awakening treatments, treatment of insomnia by CBT, etc.

Consultations and sleep examinations are offered only upon written request from a doctor.

The pathologies concerned are:

  • Insomnia and sleep conditioning disorders
  • Breathing problems during sleep
  • Narcolepsy and other hypersomnias
  • Sleepwalking and other parasomnias
  • restless legs syndrome
  • Disorders of circadian rhythms

The unit works in close collaboration with the neurology , ENT , maxillofacial surgery , pulmonology and pediatrics . It provides referral diagnostics for complex sleep pathologies in Western Normandy, and participates in teaching activities (training of medical and paramedical staff), communication and research in this area.

With nearly 2,000 consultations and nearly 1,000 sleep recordings in 2023, the Unit offers specialized and multidisciplinary care and a simplified pathway for patients and their treating physician.
