The sleep disorder exploration and treatment unit at the University Hospital is a multidisciplinary sleep center accredited by the French Society for Sleep Research and Medicine since 2008, and labeled a mixed children/adult center since June 2023.

Its main mission is the management of sleep disorders in adults and children: consultations, investigations and treatments.

  • Specialized consultations (pulmonology, neurology, psychiatry, pediatrics, pediatric neurology)
  • Explorations: respiratory polygraphy, polysomnography, vigilance tests, in dedicated hospital rooms with paramedical staff specifically trained in these techniques.
  • Treatments: implementation and monitoring of nocturnal continuous positive airway pressure ventilation, wakefulness-promoting treatments, CBT management of insomnia, etc.

Sleep consultations and examinations are offered only upon written request from a doctor.

The pathologies concerned are:

  • Insomnia and sleep conditioning disorders
  • Breathing problems during sleep
  • Narcolepsy and other hypersomnias
  • Sleepwalking and other parasomnias
  • Restless legs syndrome
  • Circadian rhythm disorders

The unit works closely with the neurology,ENTmaxillofacial surgerypulmonology and pediatrics. It provides referral diagnoses for complex sleep disorders in Western Normandy, participates in teaching activities (training of medical and paramedical staff), communication and research in this field.

With nearly 2,000 consultations and nearly 1,000 sleep recordings in 2023, the Unit offers specialized and multidisciplinary care and a simplified pathway for patients and their attending physician.
