Tobacco Addiction Coordination Unit

An information campaign has been launched within the institution and on our digital platforms, with the aim of engaging smokers and raising their awareness of the negative consequences of their tobacco use. This pop and impactful campaign is decidedly dynamic and unconventional.

Certified at the "silver" level by RESPADD (Network of Health Establishments for the Prevention of ADDictions) in January 2024, the Caen Normandy University Hospital actively participates in the fight against smoking.

It is one of the first university hospitals in France to have obtained this certification, valid for a period of three years, which attests to the commitment and implementation of LSST standards within the establishment.

For several years, the University Hospital has been implementing awareness-raising activities (workshops, meetings, stands) and initiating campaigns such as the Month Without Tobacco or World No Tobacco Day.

RESPADD · Addiction Prevention Network

To carry out the "Tobacco-Free Health Place", a multidisciplinary working group (tobacco specialists, union representatives, security members, management members, occupational physicians, quality management members, smokers, non-smokers, ex-smokers) was created with the aim of developing and deepening the overall anti-tobacco strategy.

Among the major initiatives are:

  • The organisation of an information day on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day on May 31;
  • The mobilization of teams throughout the month without tobacco (in November), with the organization of actions, workshops, conferences, etc.
  • The ban on smoking in and in the immediate vicinity of the Caen Normandy University Hospital;
  • Strengthening anti-smoking signage within the premises;
  • The installation of smoking shelters and tolerance zones around the establishment;
  • Support and monitoring of smokers (patients and professionals of the establishment);
  • Training in supporting smokers in prescribing nicotine replacement treatments;
  • Compliance with the tobacco-free hospital charter.

This project is fully in line with the 2022-2026 institutional project and the desire to address the challenges of managing chronic diseases and addictions.
