The CHU Caen Normandie becomes a Zero Tobacco Hospital

The CHU Caen Normandie is mobilizing for the health of its patients and staff. In order to offer them a healthy care and work environment, it is now forbidden to smoke throughout the hospital park outside the smoking shelters.

Our teams support you…

To help you, the smoking cessation coordination unit of Caen Normandy University Hospital offers smoking cessation consultations reimbursed by health insurance.

An information campaign has been rolled out within the establishment and on our digital media, with the aim of appealing to smokers and raising their awareness of the inconveniences associated with their tobacco consumption. This pop and impactful campaign is resolutely dynamic and offbeat.

Tobacco Free Health Center

CHU Zero tobacco, breathe!

Certified “silver” level by RESPADD (Network of Health Establishments for the Prevention of Addictions) in January 2024, Caen Normandy University Hospital actively participates in the fight against smoking.

It is one of the first university hospitals in France to have obtained this certification, valid for a period of three years, and which attests to the commitment and implementation of LSST standards within the establishment.

For several years, the University Hospital has been implementing awareness-raising actions (workshops, meetings, stands) and initiating campaigns such as No Tobacco Month or World No Tobacco Day.

To carry out the “Health Place Without Tobacco” , a multidisciplinary working group (tobacco doctors, union representatives, security members, members of management, occupational physicians, members of the quality management, smokers, non-smokers, ex-smokers) was created with the aim of developing and deepening the global anti-tobacco strategy.

Among the major initiatives are:

  • The organization of an information day on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day on May 31;
  • The mobilization of teams throughout the tobacco-free month (in November), with the organization of actions, workshops, conferences, etc.
  • The ban on smoking in and in the immediate vicinity of the University Hospital of Caen Normandy;
  • Reinforcement of anti-tobacco signage within the premises;
  • The installation of smoking shelters and tolerance zones around the establishment;
  • Accompaniment and monitoring of smokers (patients and professionals of the establishment);
  • Training to support smokers in prescribing nicotine replacement therapy;
  • Compliance with the tobacco-free hospital charter.

This project is fully in line with the 2022 · 2026 establishment project and the desire to respond to the challenges of managing chronic diseases and addictions .
