Raising awareness about perinatal bereavement

On the occasion of World Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, discover the podcast dedicated to supporting families at the Caen Normandy University Hospital.

October 15th, World Perinatal Bereavement Awareness Day, is an opportunity to highlight a reality that is still too often invisible and to recall the importance of supporting families facing the loss of a child during pregnancy or around the time of birth.

On this occasion, the Caen Normandy University Hospital is highlighting its podcast dedicated to perinatal bereavement, in which several professionals share their experience and commitment to parents.

Professionals mobilized to support families

From the announcement to the support after the loss, the maternity and neonatology teams intervene at different stages of the journey.

In this episode, Charlotte Mancel Arrouët, psychologist, Laura Fazilleau, pediatrician, Émilie Brunet, Jean-Philippe Lefèvre and Camille Girard, midwives, as well as Stessy Laronche, childcare worker, share their experiences and practices.

They address in particular the support of situations of medical termination of pregnancy (MTP), the creation of memories, the place of siblings and the importance of finding the right words, respecting the rhythm and needs of each family.

A podcast to better understand and raise awareness

Through these testimonies, this episode helps to better understand the challenges of perinatal bereavement, to raise awareness of the different forms of support offered at the University Hospital and to highlight the commitment of the teams to the parents.

For bereaved parents

A support group for parents who have lost a baby during pregnancy, around the time of birth or in the postpartum period will open in January 2027 in Caen.

It meets every six weeks in a tea room, accommodates a maximum of six couples, and is facilitated by two trained hosts. Participants come for as long as they need, and new families can join the group as needed.

The project is led by theRézo Minots association, in partnership with the Réseau Périnatal Normand, theSPAMA association and the CHU Caen Normandie, in a collective approach.
