Prostate cancer is a major health problem in France, affecting 1 in 10 men. It is the leading cause of cancer in men. However, it is often painless and slow-growing, making early detection crucial to avoid pain and, unfortunately, death from prostate metastases.

Early detection of these cancers can be carried out by a general practitioner or a urologist. It should be offered from the age of 50.

At Caen Normandy University Hospital, the medical team in the urology department, led by Professor Xavier Tillou, advocates active surveillance as an essential preventative approach. This strategy allows for close monitoring of the progression of prostate cancers, particularly when they are not aggressive. In the event of detection of non-aggressive prostate cancer, active surveillance is preferred over surgical interventions or radiotherapy.

The cancer teams at CHU Caen Normandie also play an active role in the training and education of future healthcare professionals at the Health Training and Research Center , thus contributing to the improvement of medical care in the Normandy region.

At the Caen Normandy University Hospital, Adapted Physical Activity (APA) is integrated into the management of urological cancers, particularly prostate cancer.

(APA) reduces relapse rates, improves quality of life, decreases anxiety, and lowers the risk of depression. This multidisciplinary approach, led by the Sports and Health Center at Caen Normandy University Hospital, provides essential support for patients, contributing to their well-being throughout their medical journey.

Commitment to men's health has never been stronger in the Caen region, thanks to the mobilization of local partners around the Movember event. This year, several local stakeholders joined forces to support this essential cause by participating in innovative initiatives and raising funds for the Caen Normandy Health Foundation of the Caen Normandy University Hospital.

Among the local partners determined to make a difference, the firefighters of SDIS14 are committed to growing their moustaches throughout Movember. Fire stations across western Normandy will participate in this effort, raising awareness about the importance of men's health.

Furthermore, on November 14th, in collaboration with the Caen Basket Club, a charity basketball game will be organized to benefit the Caen Normandy Health Foundation of the Caen Normandy University Hospital. This exciting initiative will raise awareness among sports fans about the cause while collecting funds to support research in men's health.

Another significant action is the organization, on November 19, of a match by the Stade Caennais Rugby Club to raise awareness of men's health and collect valuable funds for research.
