Providing the best treatments for children with cancer

The pediatric onco-hematology team at CHU Caen Normandie is dedicated to children aged 0 to 18 years who are fighting against cancer, whether it be leukemia or solid tumors.

The main goal is to cure these children and offer them as normal a life as possible, with minimal long-term effects. Treatment most often combines chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy.

The service cares for children from Lower Normandy, but not exclusively. It is the only service authorized to care for children with cancer in the region.

Each year, 40 children receive active treatment, and about 30 are transferred from other centers in France for radiotherapy. The teams support these children for years after their remission, meaning that approximately 500 children are continuously monitored at the Caen University Hospital. The hospital also houses one of only three proton therapy centers in France.
