Teleconsultation: an innovative initiative in wound care
Domoplaies project was created to improve access to care for patients suffering from chronic and complex wounds via the Normandy telemedicine platform Therap-e.
The stakes
Initially created as a research project with a health economics evaluation, Domoplaies subsequently evolved into a routine care model with reimbursement offered by social security. The project was deployed in partnership with the Occitanie region, which already had a wound healing network, and added teleconsultation to it.
The major issues:
Improving access to care : facilitating patient access to wound healing expertise in medically underserved areas of Normandy. All facilities, such as nursing homes, home hospitalization services , and peripheral hospitals, as well as patients hospitalized at university hospitals and general practitioners, can benefit.
Enabling a faster return home : continuing patient monitoring at home and reducing average lengths of hospital stay.
Approximately 2000 teleconsultations are carried out per year.
Expertise mobilized
Domoplaies is a scheduled teleconsultation service for patients with complex and/or chronic wounds.
This service is an organized care pathway bringing together doctors and nurses trained in the field of wound care, along with all the medical and surgical possibilities offered by the University Hospital.
This e-health solution offers all patients access to medical expertise in their own homes, thanks to a coordinated regional telemedicine platform. Domoplaies is not an emergency service, but the coordination provided by Normand'e-Santé allows for faster access to specialist advice in complex situations. It facilitates and ensures a strong connection between healthcare professionals and prevents disruptions in the care pathways of patients with complex and/or chronic wounds.
The Wound Healing Center at Caen University Hospital (within the Dermatology Department ), which has developed a patient pathway including teleconsultations (Domoplaies), has been designated an Expert Wound Healing Center by the Normandy Regional Health Agency. Normand'e-Santé provides coordination, communication, and support for staff using the Domoplaies service.
What are the prospects for Domoplaies?
The future ambitions of the healthcare professionals, doctors and nurses who run the Domoplaies network are to continue and expand this care pathway through the link between city, hospital and university with 3 components: care, teaching and clinical research.
Domoplaies represents a pioneering initiative of the Caen Normandy University Hospital, combining innovation, expertise in wound healing and interdisciplinary medical and surgical collaboration to optimize the management of chronic and complex wounds.
