Adapted Physical Activity
May 23, 24 and 25
Normandy Sport Against Cancer – Adapted Games 2024!
Led by the Regional Cancer Network OncoNormandie and initiated by the Caen Normandy University Hospital in 2016, "Normandie Sporte contre le Cancer" is an event promoting Adapted Physical Activity (APA) for therapeutic purposes for people with cancer.
The benefits ofAPA
The positive impacts of Adapted Physical Activity (APA) occur at all three levels of cancer prevention, enabling:
- to limit the onset of the disease (primary prevention)
- combating the adverse effects of the disease and its treatments (secondary prevention)
- limiting the risk of recurrence (tertiary prevention)
The aim is therefore to raise public awareness of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and to inform people about the advantages of physical activity in cancer prevention. Regular, appropriate physical activity is essential. According to studies conducted on certain types of cancer, appropriate physical activity in cancer patients reduces fatigue (by 30%), improves quality of life, and decreases the risk of recurrence (by up to 40%).
