Uterine cancer: 3D surgery at the service of patients

Continuing its commitment to an ambitious innovation policy, the gynecological surgery of Caen Normandy University Hospital offers its patients a cutting-edge tool for surgical management of uterine cancer. Used since 2019, the 3D video column allows surgeons to perform laparoscopic interventions with increased precision of the gesture and to provide greater comfort and safety for patients.

A new surgical dimension

A major development in surgery, the “3D column” makes it possible to carry out high-tech interventions with increased precision of the surgeon's movements. 3D vision allows you to see the organs in relief and brings even more precision, speed and efficiency to the surgical procedure.

The advantages of the 3D column are numerous for patients: reduction in the risk of injury; simplification of surgical procedures; shortened length of hospitalization. Compared to traditional support, this technology allows a faster resumption of transit, feeding and mobilization.
Aesthetically, the scars are also much less significant. This surgery also helps accelerate the transition to complementary treatments (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, brachytherapy).

Over the past year, a new 3D column allowing the use of fluorescence for the detection of sentinel lymph nodes has been acquired by the University Hospital. This fluorescence technique has many advantages over previous sentinel lymph node detection techniques such as better detection sensitivity and less allergic reaction than the old colorimetric technique. This technique also eliminates the exposure of the patient and nursing staff to radioactive products and reduces the duration of hospitalization.

This equipment was financed with the help of Rochambelle , the Normandy Region and the Caen Normandie CHU Foundation .
