To carry out the “Tobacco-Free Health Facility” project, a multidisciplinary working group (tobacco specialists, union representatives, security members, management members, occupational physicians, quality management members, smokers, non-smokers, ex-smokers) formerly known as the tobacco-free hospital network was created with the aim of developing and deepening the strategy.
Among the major initiatives are:
- Support and monitoring of smokers;
- Training of CHU staff and future healthcare professionals in supporting smokers and prescribing nicotine replacement treatments;
- Organising prevention actions: World No Tobacco Day on May 31; mobilisation of teams throughout the month without tobacco (in November), robin campaign, Normandy sports against cancer with the organisation of actions, workshops, conferences, etc.
- The ban on smoking in and in the immediate vicinity of the Caen Normandy University Hospital;
- Strengthening the "zero tobacco" signage within the premises;
- The installation of tolerance zones (smoking shelters) around the establishment;
- Regional and national participation in the implementation of the National Plan to Combat Tobacco Use.
In 2022, to affirm its commitment to the fight against tobacco, the Caen Normandy University Hospital also signed the RESPADD charter "Tobacco-free Health Place (LSST).
