A major advancement in surgery, the "3D column" allows for highly technical procedures with increased precision for the surgeon. The 3D view allows the surgeon to see organs in relief, bringing even greater precision, speed, and efficiency to the surgical procedure.
The advantages of 3D spine surgery for patients are numerous: reduced risk of injury; simplified postoperative care; and shorter hospital stays. Compared to traditional surgery, this technology allows for a faster return to normal bowel function, eating, and mobility. Aesthetically, scarring is also significantly reduced.
This surgery also accelerates the transition to adjuvant treatments (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, brachytherapy).
For the past year, the University Hospital has been equipped with a new 3D column that uses fluorescence to detect sentinel lymph nodes. This fluorescence technique offers numerous advantages over previous sentinel lymph node detection methods, such as improved detection sensitivity and fewer allergic reactions than the older colorimetric technique. Furthermore, this technique eliminates exposure of both the patient and healthcare staff to radioactive materials and reduces the length of hospital stays.
This equipment was financed with the help of Rochambelle, the Normandy Region and the CHU Caen Normandy Foundation.
