From Rennes to Caen: a sporting challenge in the service of solidarity
For five days, Boris and David Varin connected the hematology departments of the University Hospitals of Rennes and Caen to raise awareness of blood diseases, support patients and highlight the work of the care teams.
From May 12 to 16, 2026, Boris and David Varin took on an extraordinary sporting challenge by covering the distance between the university hospitals of Rennes and Caen. Their program included run & bike, swimming, running, canoeing/kayaking, walking, and other endurance disciplines, all mobilized in service of a common cause.
Through this adventure, David Varin, vice-president of the Manche Leucémie association, and his brother Boris wanted to raise public awareness of blood diseases, publicize the actions carried out by the association with patients and their loved ones, but also support the hematology services involved in their care.
After five days of effort, the two athletes arrived at the Caen Normandy University Hospital on Saturday, May 16. Their journey ended with the teams from thepediatric oncology-hematology department and then theLower Normandy Hematology Institute (IHBN), who came to welcome them and commend their commitment.
Beyond the sporting achievement, this challenge highlighted the daily work of professionals who support patients with hematological diseases. Doctors, caregivers, paramedics, and associations work alongside patients and their families every day throughout their treatment journey.
Through their determination and commitment, Boris and David Varin have conveyed a strong message of solidarity and hope, highlighting the importance of supporting those affected by these diseases.
