Geriatric pathway

The geriatric care pathway welcomes and cares for people over 75 years of age. It comprises an assessment center, two standard short-stay hospitalization units, a unit for patients with complex needs (UTAC), a nursing home (EHPAD) and a long-term care unit (USLD). The pathway addresses the needs of the population in collaboration with local healthcare and social service providers.

    Department

    The Geriatric Care Department  is a two-site service of the Caen University Hospital located on the 17thfloor of the Côte de Nacre site and at the La Charité Residence for the Elderly.

    The geriatric sector provides care for people over 75 years of age in the area and plays a leading role in the interface between the city and the hospital.

    It consists of an assessment unit which includes a telephone platform which is aimed at the medical and social actors in the territory, an extra-hospital mobile team which assesses patients at home, an intra-hospital mobile team, a consultation center and a Day Hospital (HDJ) sector.

    It also consists of acute hospitalization beds, two standard short stay units, a unit for perplexing patients ( UTAC ), 100 USLD beds and 134 EHPAD beds.

    Geriatric and specialist consultations are offered in:

    1. Standardized Geriatric Assessment Consultations in pairs with a nurse
    2. Memory consultations accredited by CMRR CHU of Caen
    3. Oncogeriatric assessment consultations
    4. Chronic pain consultations for the elderly
    5. Neurogeriatric consultations
    6. Fall consultations
    7. Cardio-geriatric consultations

    Nursing Home

    EHPAD LA CHARITE

    The La Charité Residence for the Elderly accommodates 260 residents experiencing a loss of physical and/or mental autonomy, requiring care in a nursing home ( EHPAD - Établissement d'Hébergement pour Personnes Âgées Dépendantes) or long-term care unit ( USLD - Unité de soins de longue durée) . Affiliated with the Caen Normandie University Hospital (CHU Caen Normandie), the Residence fulfills its public service obligations by welcoming individuals eligible for social assistance, regardless of gender, culture, or religion. It is committed to promoting values ​​that respect the dignity of all individuals.
