Pink October
Together, let's fight female cancers!
In this month of Pink October , Caen Normandy University Hospital is mobilizing to raise awareness of the fight against female cancers. For a whole month, the gynecology-obstetrics teams will be mobilized to raise awareness of this disease and the solutions to combat it, support patients and their loved ones and offer them appropriate supportive care.
On the occasion of this special month, the University Hospital is highlighting its main work in the area of breast cancer, for women in the region and for progress in the fight against this disease.
Breast cancer screening: a major issue for the University Hospital
The University Hospital has been offering breast screenings to its patients for a long time and aims to ramp it up in the coming year in order to offer ever faster turnaround times to the population. A cancer detected early is a cancer that is better treated!
“Breast” consultations: major new offer from the University Hospital for local women
Long absent from the care pathways for cancer patients, the University Hospital is committed this year to setting up, from November 2023, consultations dedicated to breast pathologies for all people requesting it or referred to its service.
These consultations will be carried out by professional gynecologists-obstetricians trained in this disease within a reinforced team of 5 doctors and an experienced paramedical team. Full access to diagnostic and then therapeutic pathways will be offered to patients requiring it.
Preserving fertility at the heart of patient care issues
The increase in the effectiveness of cancer treatments is, unfortunately, accompanied by an increase in their toxicity. Thus, the after-effects are not exceptional in cured patients and the impairment of fertility constitutes, in these conditions, an important issue for “living well” despite recovery.
The Caen Normandy University Hospital is thus recognized as a reference center for the entire hemi-region with its reproductive medicine and biology department. This service already welcomes many women suffering from breast cancer so that a solution to preserve their fertility can be offered to them.
An innovative technique for healing after-effects: the vaginal laser
This fight against the after-effects of treatments leads the Caen Normandy University Hospital and its gynecology to offer innovative solutions for patients. Thus, the gynecology team recently introduced a new technique used in the treatment of vaginal dryness linked to breast cancer treatments.
More precisely, the University Hospital has developed for several years experience in vulvovaginal pathologies by carrying out joint “dermatologist-gynecologist” consultations specific for these pathologies. A laser specially dedicated to this task was acquired by the University Hospital (Laser Monalisatouch®) and now offers this treatment at no additional cost to patients during a medical consultation.
Thanks to the “vaginal laser”, supported by La Rochambelle , the Normandy Region and the Caen Normandie Health Foundation of the Caen Normandie University Hospital, our medical teams can now offer adapted solutions to help patients return to as normal a life as possible.
A university hospital at the heart of the training of health professionals in breast cancer
The CHU healthcare team is not only on the front line in the fight against breast cancer, it also trains, through its professor of medicine, member of the team (Prof. Raffaèle Fauvet), future generations of doctors and nurses. and midwives in the care of patients and this disease.
An approved hairdresser to better cope with illness at the heart of the University Hospital
On the ground floor of the “ Women-Child-Hematology ” ( FEH ) building, the University Hospital welcomes Johana, a hair prosthetist offering wigs, bonnets, turbans and hair accessories. His role, like that of other prosthetists in the region, is essential in supporting patients during the active phases of treatment.
The proximity of the “Adelaïde” lounge makes it a valuable asset for healthcare teams and patients looking for solutions to maintain their self-esteem whatever their situation.
#CHUCaenRose: For solidarity and research
During this period of Pink October, Caen Normandy University Hospital, in unison with all health and civil society stakeholders, is launching a call for solidarity for patients and against breast cancer.
The contribution and support of everyone to the healthcare teams, the University Hospital and its foundation are essential to continue to offer new offers to patients, develop new techniques, and offer new treatments.
Let's not forget gynecological cancers
This month of Pink October should also allow us to highlight the actions carried out by the University Hospital against gynecological and ovarian cancers in particular. Indeed, the problem of breast cancer inevitably refers to that of female cancers in general.
Caen Normandy University Hospital, a referral structure for gynecological cancers, treats numerous patients with various female cancers each year, providing care and support from their screening until their return home.
