The Caen University Hospital and APNEAL are testing a new screening approach

A new screening tool for Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) in patients with upper aerodigestive tract (UADT) cancer, using the Apneal app

Innovative screening for Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) in patients with head and neck cancer using the Apneal application.

The University Hospital of Caen and the start-up APNEAL are launching an innovative clinical research project aimed at testing a new screening method for Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) in patients with cancer of the upper aerodigestive tract (UADT).

Sleep apnea syndrome (SAOS) is common but often underdiagnosed and can have serious consequences such as severe fatigue, cardiovascular complications, or poor quality of life. Anatomical changes related to head and neck cancers and their treatments could promote the development of this syndrome, making its screening essential.

The study, carried out within the ENT department of the Caen Normandy University Hospital , evaluates the feasibility of the Apneal digital application, an innovative technology using artificial intelligence, to detect sleep apnea directly via a smartphone.

The goal is to analyze the frequency of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and thus identify patients to be systematically screened in the future. Currently, the application is being validated in a European clinical trial.

A promising step forward for more accessible and effective screening!
