On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, we focus on the daily work of the teams at the Caen Normandy University Hospital to support victims, but also on the systems put in place within the establishment.

Signing of the departmental protocol for the reception and support of victims

On Thursday, November 23, at the Calvados Prefecture , the Caen Normandy University Hospital signed a protocol for welcoming and supporting victims of domestic, intra-family, and/or sexual violence within healthcare facilities . The signatories include: the Prefect, the Director General of the Health Agency (ARS Normandy Regional ), the Director General of the Caen Normandy University Hospital, the Director of the Lisieux Hospital Center , the public prosecutors of Caen and Lisieux, representatives of law enforcement, the Calvados Departmental Council of the Order of Physicians , the Regional Union of General Practitioners , victim support associations, and the Caen Bar Association .

The Caen Normandy University Hospital fully committed

The Caen Normandy University Hospital offers a comprehensive range of services for the care and support of victims of violence. The hospital's medical and nursing teams are fully committed to supporting victims.

In this regard, the University Hospital (CHU) announces the establishment of a consultation service dedicated to domestic, intra-family, and/or sexual violence within its medico-legal unit (UMJ). Victims can be referred to this service 24/7 by various hospital departments and local healthcare professionals. The service aims to improve the identification and reporting of violent situations, inform victims of their rights, and facilitate the process of filing a complaint. A simplified complaint filing procedure has also been implemented within the hospital, allowing for immediate transmission to law enforcement.
Furthermore, for victims who do not wish to file a complaint immediately, the new consultation service allows for the collection of evidence and samples for safekeeping in anticipation of potential legal proceedings.

Identifying violence, protecting and supporting victims

Healthcare professionals are often the first point of contact for victims of violence. The Caen Normandy University Hospital provides its staff with tools to help them prevent and identify violence, and to protect and support victims.

An internal communication campaign against sexist and sexual violence

As an employer, the Caen Normandy University Hospital is committed to the prevention, protection, and support of staff members who are victims of violence. An internal campaign is being rolled out to all staff members of the institution to raise awareness and encourage victims of sexual violence or sexist behavior to report it to a dedicated prevention unit.
