Regulation of access to adult emergency services at Caen University Hospital: new procedures from November 1, 2025

Launched last July across the entire Calvados department, the system for regulating access to the emergency department at Caen University Hospital is entering a new phase. After several weeks of training and adaptation, it became fully operational on Saturday, November 1, 2025.

In practice, all patients must contact 15 before going to the adult emergency department .
This change aims to ensure the most appropriate care for each situation, in a context of high pressure and with the approach of winter.

For patients arriving without having previously contacted 15, a reception is organized at the entrance of the emergency department : the reception and orientation team has been reinforced and telephones connected directly to the 15 Center allow the situation to be assessed in real time and patients to be directed immediately.

No patient will be left without a solution. The teams at the 15 center, in conjunction with hospital services , general practitioners , on-call medical centers and partner institutions , will direct each patient towards the most appropriate care.

Access to pediatric and gynecological emergencies is not affected by this measure and continues under normal conditions.
