Discover the adventure imagined by Emma, hospitalized in pediatric oncology and hematology
As part of a project between the Ministry of Culture and the association of sports writers , the pediatric onco-hematology department of the Caen Normandy University Hospital welcomed the writer Jean Baptiste Verrier, author of books and podcasts mixing sport, fiction and poetry.
A word from the author
At the end of 2022, the Ministry of Culture asked the Association of Sports Writers and its members to devise initiatives to promote sports literature in areas where it is not typically found. I then took the liberty of approaching the Caen University Hospital, where I met Emma, an 11-year-old being treated in the pediatric oncology and hematology department. With the agreement of the medical staff and her mother, I proposed that she create a cycling story to be shared on this podcast. That afternoon, when we met, Emma immediately shared the incredibly inventive and detailed outline of the story she had imagined while waiting for our meeting. I jotted everything down in my notebook, transferred it to my computer in the following days, and then returned to read it to her to get her approval.
Finally, on Emma's suggestion, we entrusted the text to storyteller Marie Lemoine, from the Magnanarelle company , who has been working for thirty years to read and perform stories for the children in this department where, despite the challenges – to quote the words of Sophie and Catherine, the health manager and educator who accompanied this project from beginning to end – "there is also a lot of joy!".
This is how the Legend of Kitty, Scarlett and Pimpinette's Journey, authored by Emma Gosselin, came about.
