University Institute of the Spine of Caen
Spine surgery is structured within the University Institute of the Spine (IUR), which was inaugurated in November 2014. Its ambition is to make available all specialists involved in spinal pathologies and to allow a coordinated, multidisciplinary and efficient clinical pathway for patients.
The University Institute of Spine has made it possible to bring together specialist practitioners from different disciplines around a coordinated approach to all back pathologies.
The care pathway is in partnership with local doctors, local physiotherapists and rehabilitation centers in the region.
Activities
A monthly multidisciplinary meeting allows for the study of complex cases.
The University Spine Institute also enables the implementation of clinical research, technological innovations, industrial partnerships, and collaborations with other national and international university centers.
The enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) is a personalized program to prepare for spinal interventions and allows for faster recovery after surgery.
An outpatient surgery program is also being developed to provide safe surgery while allowing patients to return home the same evening as the procedure.
A generic email address is provided for sending all correspondence and consultation requests. It is to be used by healthcare professionals.

- to offer a full range of care, from the simplest ailments to the most complex cases,
- maintain a permanent link with the general practitioner for the management of persistent and complex conditions.
- to train medical and paramedical health personnel on spinal pathologies and their therapeutic management through workshops, on Tuesday evenings from 5pm to 8pm at the University Hospital, in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
