Complex Osteoarticular Infection
An osteoarticular infection ( OAI ) is an infection that affects bones, joints, or implants such as joint prostheses. These infections are common after surgery but can also occur following serious trauma. Although they are not very frequent in France, with approximately 2,000 to 4,000 new cases per year, they are very serious and can have significant consequences for the function and, rarely, the life of patients.
The center is associated with the centers of Lille, Amiens and Rouen (CRIOAC G4 group) coordinated by the Lille-Tourcoing team around Doctor Eric Senneville (infectiology) and Professor Henri Migaud (surgery).

Activities
Patient receptionPatients are received either through the emergency department, where they are assessed by a senior orthopedic surgeon 24/7, or through a specialized orthopedic or infectious disease consultation. A senior infectious disease specialist is assigned to manage complex osteoarticular infections, in collaboration with other physicians in the Infectious Diseases department.
ConsultationMultidisciplinary team meetings are held monthly (first or second Tuesday ) orthopedics department meeting room (level 11, unit 40) and whenever necessary. The files of hospitalized patients, as well as those seen in consultation, are reviewed, and a treatment plan is determined on a case-by-case basis.
Opinions are issued on cases originating from other establishments and care within the service is offered depending on the severity of the situation.
Decisions are made in accordance with a care protocol based on national recommendations and adapted to the requirements and resources of the Caen University Hospital.
The researchThe research consists of a regular evaluation of the results of the management of joint prosthesis infections and the inclusion of patients in prospective clinical trials.
