    Our services

    Diabetes management

The Caen Normandy University Hospital is the reference center for Diabetology in Western Normandy. The Endocrinology-Diabetology department provides outpatient and inpatient care for all diabetological situations, including complex ones (diabetes technologies, metabolic and degenerative complications, diabetic foot ulcers).

    Endocrinology and Diabetology Hospitalization

The Endocrinology and Diabetology department provides hospitalization for diabetic patients for:

    • to detect micro and macrovascular complications
    • adapt the therapeutic approach and, in particular, initiate insulin therapy, pump therapy, and closed-loop systems
    • treat acute metabolic complications (ketoacidosis, severe hypoglycemia, hyperosmolarity)
    • managing complex diabetic foot ulcers (multidisciplinary care with infectious disease specialists, vascular physicians and surgeons)
    • to offer therapeutic education provided by nurses, dieticians and doctors

The Endocrinology-Diabetology department also provides care for all endocrine pathologies requiring complex assessments (biology, imaging, clinical expertise), for example:

    • Pituitary adenoma
    • Hyperparathyroidism
    • Adrenal masses
    • Hypoglycemia assessment
    • Genetic endocrine diseases
    The mobile team

This team, consisting of a senior physician, an intern, and a nurse educator, is called in when diabetic patients are hospitalized in other departments to optimize glycemic control and ensure quality care.

The team also provides care for patients with gestational diabetes, through close monitoring in consultation, via telemedicine, and during hospitalization, in conjunction with the gynecology-obstetrics department.

The mobile team also provides advice regarding endocrine pathologies presented by patients hospitalized at the university hospital.

    The consultations

The service provides consultations in diabetology and endocrinology.

The outpatient care unit allows for the daily reception of people living with diabetes for nursing consultations, therapeutic education and adjustment of insulin treatments.

Consultations dedicated to diabetic foot ulcers are held three times a week, provided by a doctor-nurse team. These consultations allow for coordinated care when referrals to other specialists (infectious disease specialists, surgeons, rehabilitation physicians, dermatologists, angiologists, etc.) are necessary. A podiatrist provides foot care concurrently.

    Support for transgender people

The multidisciplinary team for the care of trans identity consists of Dr. Camille Delouche, psychiatrist, Dr. Stéphanie Fezzoli, sexologist,  Professor Yves Reznik and Dr. Bleuenn Dreves, endocrinologists, as well as Mr. Vincent Bertauld, psychologist and coordinator of the network with Ms. Mourier Mathilde.

The team works with individuals who have developed a gender identity that does not correspond to their biological sex. The support offered includes assistance with administrative changes, prescription and monitoring of hormone therapy, psychological support, sexology consultations, coordination of fertility preservation or surgical plans with local or external resources, and facilitation of support groups for patients and their families.

    The research

    Clinical research activity

The service, in conjunction with the Clinical Research Centre , offers patients the opportunity to participate in various clinical research protocols, covering a range of topics: type 2 diabetes, type 1 diabetes, adrenal insufficiency, endocrine disorders, new molecules, new technologies, etc.
