Training day for the Regional Pediatric Team for Children at Risk
Thinking the unthinkable: violence against non-ambulatory infants
Violence and neglect in infants are difficult situations.
Since they have not acquired the ability to express themselves, diagnoses of inflicted trauma must be centered on clinical findings and a very rigorous diagnostic approach.
The expression of violence and neglect from a very young age is highly counterintuitive. The expression of pain is subtle, and the injuries are often minimal. Yet, identifying these abuses is crucial, as their continuation can seriously endanger the lives and health of these children.
Recognizing this mistreatment therefore requires a plurality of actors with a shared understanding of the issue. The severity of these cases often puts a strain on teams.
This half-day training aims to address this unique clinical situation in non-ambulatory infants and the necessary linking of skills from prevention to expertise in a constant concern for care and protection.
