Prevent cervical cancer
Cervical cancer is a malignant tumor developed from the lining of the cervix. The main risk factor is the prolonged presence of the papillomavirus ( HPV ) in the cervix. Each year in France, it affects nearly 3,000 women and causes approximately 1,100 deaths.
There are two ways to prevent cervical cancer:
- The performance of a screening test every 3 years for women between 25 and 29 years old, after 2 normal tests carried out one year apart, then every 5 years between 30 and 65 years old;
- Vaccination against human papillomavirus ( HPV ) for boys and girls between 11 and 14 years old. It can also be offered as a catch-up up to the age of 19 inclusive.
Screening for cancer of the cervix makes it possible to identify 32,000 cancerous or precancerous lesions each year and treat them before they develop into cancer.
Cervical cancer treatment at CHU Caen Normandie
The CHU Caen Normandie has a complete technical platform and a dedicated medical team for the care of patients with cervical cancer.
Treatment of dysplasia of the cervix:
Dysplasias can progress to cancer after a few years. They must be monitored or treated according to their severity.
In 2022, 182 patients were treated in the establishment within the ambulatory surgery unit for mild to severe dysplasia and 92% of these patients benefited from conization or laser treatment.
Minimally invasive and innovative surgery:
The establishment has also acquired a state-of-the-art technique with the help of La Rochambelle, the Normandy Region and the Caen Normandy Health Foundation in order to surgically treat cancers of the cervix. The 3D laparoscopic column with fluorescence saves operating time, lightens the postoperative course and provides greater comfort for the surgeon, which guarantees greater safety for the patient.
