The biobank of the Caen Normandy University Hospital

The main missions of a biobank for the scientific and medical community are:

  • To support the design and implementation of projects by providing expertise in biobanking
  • To guarantee quality biological resources from their collection to their distribution
  • To guarantee ethical and regulatory compliance and respect for the patient
  • To contribute to clinical research and innovation through the valorization of biological resources.
  • Participating in national networks to enable the sharing of biological resources and the harmonization of practices.

To achieve this, the entire biology department relies on its daily collections, strengthened and streamlined with the new emergency and rapid response platform and the common biological reception (PURR-ABC) but also historical ones.

It relies on the recognized expertise of the Biological Resource Center (CRB) – InnovaBIO , a service of the Caen Normandy University Hospital (CHU Caen Normandie) created in 2018 and attached to the Research and Innovation Department (DRI). It works closely with the biology department and will be moving to the Biology-Research building. As a research support structure, the CRB holds dual certification: NF S96-900:2011 / ISO 20387:2018 for its activities of collecting, receiving, preparing, preserving, and making available biological resources of human origin for scientific and biomedical research. Our certifications allow us to demonstrate a high-quality organization and service resolutely focused on customer satisfaction and the continuous improvement of practices.
