Territorial Institute of Biology · Health
The Territorial Institute of Biology and Health is a center of excellence dedicated to innovation and scientific research, bringing together the public hospitals of Western Normandy.
It represents a major advance in the field of medical research and diagnostics. Equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and staffed by teams led by experts in their respective disciplines, it aims to provide high-quality care, strengthen the network of public services, and encourage scientific advances in the fields of biology, anatomical pathology, and cytology.
The biology laboratory of the Caen Normandy University Hospital has historically provided a role of reference and expertise for the performance of certain specialized biology and pathological anatomy and cytology examinations in Western Normandy, through a series of cooperations with hospitals throughout the territory.
As of 2023, the Institute brings together 10 public institutions that have expressed their desire to join and could be expanded to include other organizations in the future. A medical coordination committee will be appointed to implement joint actions, monitor their progress, and guide the inter-institutional strategy.
At a time when the major medical, scientific and digital innovations of the new Biology Research Building of the University Hospital and its new platform call for a broader structuring for the benefit of patients and the benefit of the quality of care, the creation of the Territorial and University Institute of Health Biology intends to meet the needs of public health establishments in the different fields of health biology.
This project is part of the 2022-2026 strategic plan and aims to address these challenges:
- by creating an integrated collaborative framework,
- by serving a shared expertise among all its constituent members,
- by allowing initiatives to be unleashed,
- by multiplying opportunities for cooperation,
- by facilitating the linking of medical skills and the logistical and scientific resources of the territory in the areas of screening, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases.
The institute also serves a desire to strengthen the research and teaching units in charge of university and continuing training of health professionals, in service of a future project organized around the health needs of tomorrow and which takes into account the evolution of demographics and medical attractiveness.
