Infection Prevention & Control

Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) focuses on preventing and/or controlling healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), limiting the transmission of potentially infectious agents, and promoting and measuring the application of evidence-based practices currently recognized by specialists in this field. Its aim is to protect both patients or users of the healthcare system and healthcare professionals from the risk of contamination, as well as to combat antimicrobial resistance.

service Infection Prevention & Control is now integrated into the DAI (Department of Infectious Agents).

    The missions of the service

    Prevention of healthcare-associated infections
    • The EOH (Operational Hygiene Team) participates in the development of the prevention strategy with an Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) program. It adapts existing guidelines to the local context, disseminates them, and ensures the implementation of healthcare-associated infection prevention actions in collaboration with clinical and medical-technical services.
    Training and information

The EOH contributes to the definition and implementation of the training plan for professionals around infectious risk and its management in collaboration with the medical and nursing management of services or sectors of activity, in the field of prevention of healthcare-associated infections, infectious risks related to the healthcare environment and epidemic and biological risks.

Monitoring and reporting of adverse events of an infectious nature

Infection risk monitoring concerns the frequency of healthcare-associated infections, the monitoring of certain microbiological quality indicators of the healthcare environment, as well as alerts and reporting, including serious adverse events associated with care.

The EOH participates in the development of the clinical surveillance strategy for patients and the environment (epidemiological surveillance of infections, plan for microbiological sampling of the environment in sectors under surveillance, etc.).

The EOH communicates within the establishment on the monitoring data of the IAS, the results and the evolution of the indicators, the alerts contributing to the information of decision-makers in order to improve practices and organizations.

    Evaluation of professional practices

The Infection Control Team (ICT) plays a major role in implementing professional practice evaluations (PPE) in the area of infection IPC ) (audit programs, risk assessments, etc.) and in developing indicators to evaluate the implementation of the IPC within the institution. These evaluations contribute to the development and improvement of professional practice improvement programs and their monitoring.

    Hospital hygiene laboratory

The laboratory performs environmental sampling and microbiological analyses within the facility in connection with the monitoring and prevention of environmental infection risks. The laboratory's activities include microbiological analysis of water (drinking water, water for standard care, hemodialysis, etc.), endoscopes, air and surfaces in controlled atmosphere zones, and the sterility of pharmaceutical products. The laboratory also participates in the investigation of infectious events of environmental origin.

  • Teaching and research

    teaching

professionals EOH participate each year in the teaching of future medical and paramedical health professionals in the region.

The EOH is involved in various research projects on the prevention of infectious risk and regularly publishes scientific articles in the field of HAI prevention.

    The research

For fundamental research, the Dynamicure unit:
UMR1311 – DYNAMICURE (Ex GRAM 2.0 – EA2656) has as its main themes the adaptation of microbial agents to the host and in its environment as well as the evolutionary and ecological dynamics associated with infection to epidemic circulation and the emergence of new pathogens.
