World Pulse Day day
What if we took the time to listen to your heart? Next March 1: It is the Pulse Day, the World Day to Awareness of Heart Rhythm. Launched in 2023, this initiative aims to inform and mobilize the French.
Why is the pulse taking important?
Why monitor your pulse?
- Cardiac arrhythmias, such as atrial fibrillation, can be silent but significantly increase the risk of stroke and other serious complications.
- One in three people will develop a arrhythmia in their lifetime.
- Regular pulse intake makes it possible to quickly identify an irregular or abnormal rhythm, a potential sign of a arrhythmia requiring a medical assessment.
How to take your pulse?
- On the wrist: Place two fingers (index and major) on the inside of the wrist, just below the thumb.
- Observe the rhythm: a normal pulse is regular. If you experience irregular or unpredictable beats, see a healthcare professional.
Method to count the heart rate:
- Count the number of beats felt for 30 seconds.
- Multiply this figure by 2 to obtain your heart rate in beats per minute (BPM).
When to consult a doctor?
- Alert signs requiring medical advice:
- An irregular pulse, with unpredictable beats.
- Too fast a heart rate (> 100 bpm) or too slow (<50 bpm).
- Palpitations, breathlessness or dizziness.
- If in doubt, see a healthcare professional!
Together, let's act to detect arrhythmias!
- By participating in the Pulse Day, you contribute to raising awareness and prevention of cardiovascular disease.
- Take a few moments to measure your pulse and share this initiative around you
