Anosmia and Nasal Polyposis Awareness Day

Nasal polyposis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the nasal mucosa. It can lead to a loss of smell. To raise public awareness of this disease, the ENT of the Caen Normandy University Hospital is organizing an information day.

Nasal polyposis

Nasal polyposis affects more than a million people in France. However, it remains largely unknown to the general public. It is a chronic inflammatory disease of the mucous membrane characterized by polyps that can obstruct the sinuses and nasal cavities. A loss of smell is often associated with this condition. Blocked or runny nose, headaches or sinus pain, sneezing, altered or lost sense of smell… to learn more about the symptoms, causes, and treatments, visit our stand!

  • 78% of French people say they are unfamiliar with nasal polyposis.
  • 2.1% of the adult population is affected, i.e. 1 million patients in France.
  • 9 out of 10 patients find the symptoms burdensome.

Anosmia

Anosmia, or loss of smell, is a common symptom that can occur due to several factors. Although anosmia is not often considered a serious condition, it can have a significant impact on a person's quality of life.
