Emergency Care Training Center
The Emergency Care Training Centre (CESU) is a functional unit of the SAMU at the Caen Normandy University Hospital.
- It trains healthcare staff, whether students or professionals, in emergency procedures and care, as well as non-healthcare staff in health or medico-social establishments.
- He is also in charge of training in the event of an exceptional health situation according to the decree of December 30, 2014 amended by the decree of July 1, 2019.
- Finally, it is available in case of a request for specific training related to the topic of emergency care.

- Appropriate behavior during two emergency scenarios, one of which involved cardiac arrest
Once the training is validated, a certificate of training in emergency procedures and care, level 1 or 2, is issued in accordance with the decree of March 3, 2006. This certificate is valid for four years, as indicated on the certificate itself. Renewal of validity is contingent upon participation in a one-day refresher course, which must take place before the expiry date.

TheAFGSU (Certificate of Training in Emergency Gestures and Care) aims to provide care, alone or as part of a team, to a person in an emergency situation involving vital and functional prognosis, and to apply measures and use of individual and collective protections in the face of a risk with health consequences.

Training materials: low-fidelity adult and infant mannequins, aspiration mannequins, training defibrillator, hospital bed, emergency trolley, various training equipment (splints, stretchers, tourniquets, makeup, etc.), computer equipment
The training takes place in:
- Practical workshops for learning the techniques
- Emergency simulation sessions adapted to the context and professional skills, allowing for continuous formative assessment
- Techniques of active teaching, discovery learning, and learning by doing
Training validation – Certificate – Certificate validity
The validation of these training courses is summative:
- Attendance at the entire training session
- Performing each technical skill during practical sequences
- Appropriate behavior during two emergency scenarios, one of which involved cardiac arrest
Once the training is validated, a certificate of training in emergency procedures and care, level 1 or 2, is issued in accordance with the decree of March 3, 2006. This certificate is valid for four years, as indicated on the certificate itself. Renewal of validity is contingent upon participation in a one-day refresher course, which must take place before the expiry date.

AFGSU Training · Cardiac Arrest on Duty – UMH-P
AFGSU Level 1 Initial Training
Goals :
- To be able to identify a medical emergency and manage it alone or as part of a team while waiting for the arrival of the medical team
- Being able to identify one's role in the event of an emergency plan activation and being aware of exceptional health risks
Target audience & prerequisites : administrative staff or hospital service agents working in health establishments or medico-social structures.

AFGSU Level 2 Initial Training
Goals :
- To be able to identify and manage a medical emergency, alone or as part of a team, using non-invasive techniques while awaiting the arrival of the medical team
- Being able to integrate into the implementation of emergency plans
Target audience & prerequisites :
- Professions listed in Part Four of the Public Health Code and students enrolled in training programs for the diploma (physician, dentist, midwife, pharmacist, pharmacy technician, nurse, physiotherapist, chiropodist/podiatrist, occupational therapist, psychomotor therapist, speech therapist, orthoptist, medical radiographer, medical laboratory technician, hearing aid specialist, optician, prosthetist, orthotist, dietitian, nursing assistant, childcare assistant, ambulance driver, ambulance attendant, dental assistant)
- Individuals holding the diploma of medical-psychological assistant or educational and social support worker mentioned in Article R.451-95 or 451-88 of the French Social Action and Families Code, or currently in training
- Individuals holding a medical dispatch assistant diploma or currently in training

On-duty cardiac arrest training
Objective : To be able to recognize and manage a cardiac arrest in one's usual workplace. This allows service professionals to become familiar with the service's procedures and equipment.

IDE SMUR – ADE SMUR : adaptation to the job for practice in UMH-P
Objective : To be able to take care of a patient (adult and child) without medical supervision (diagnosis, care actions, specific technical procedures and pre-hospital monitoring in connection with medical regulation following the recommendations of the SFMU in force).
Personnel concerned : nurses and paramedics from the SMUR (Emergency Medical ) of Calvados.
Registered nurses (RNs) must have at least two years of experience in an emergency medical service (SAMU) or four years of experience in an emergency department (full-time equivalent) and must hold a current AFGSU2 certification .
Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) must have more than two years of experience in a mobile intensive care unit ( SMUR) and hold a current AFGSU2 certification.

Training for Exceptional Health Situations
CESU organizes specific training courses , in accordance with the decree of July 1, 2019, for decontamination technicians or facility protection in nuclear or chemical situations. For these courses, please contact the secretariat, which will verify your eligibility for registration .
1. Emergency hospital decontamination and individual and collective protective measures
(Appendix 7 of the decree)
Target audience : Healthcare professionals and staff of healthcare facilities responsible for receiving and/or caring for contaminated victims.
Prerequisites : AFGSU1 or 2
. Training duration : Seven hours.
Training validity : One year.

2. Thorough hospital decontamination
(Appendix 8 of the decree)
Target audience : healthcare professionals and staff of healthcare facilities involved in the implementation of a hospital-based deep decontamination unit.
This training, which has Annex 7 as a prerequisite, includes Annexes 7 and 8 and takes place over two 7-hour days – the annual refresher course is a half-day of 3.5 hours.

Duration of initial training : 14 hours
Recycling time : 3 hours 30 minutes

- Our courses are not eligible for CPF funding.
- Health students: AFGSU , which is part of your professional training curriculum, is covered by your training institution.
- Healthcare professionals: contact your institution's Continuing Education department to arrange for funding
- Healthcare professionals: check with your employer.
- Self-employed healthcare professionals: contact your training insurance fund
