Therapeutic innovation and research against brain tumors

Brain cancer is the leading cause of cancer death before the age of 35. Each year, more than 6,000 new cases are diagnosed in France. Due to their rarity, significant heterogeneity, frequent resistance to conventional treatments, or inoperability, surgical and systemic treatments for brain tumors are limited. Exposure to low-frequency magnetic fields is considered a very likely contributing factor.

In the western Normandy region…

All patients diagnosed with a brain tumor are treated in the neurosurgery department at Caen Normandy University Hospital. Unfortunately, some brain tumors, particularly those located in difficult-to-reach areas or deep within the brain, remain inoperable to this day because the risk of long-term complications is too high.
Preclinical and clinical research is focused on improving surgical treatments in these cases.

It is in this context that the Caen Normandy University Hospital is seeking to acquire a neuro-navigation system that will allow progress in the treatment of this type of tumor.
