The Health Unit - somatic care facilities, ensures the health care of prisoners in a comprehensive public health and health education mission.

Our services

The missions of the healthcare unit – somatic care services
  • to provide healthcare in prisons,
  • to ensure hospital care through hospital reception,
  • to promote follow-up medical care after detention,
  • develop prevention.

Medical care for prisoners is tailored to the most common illnesses encountered in prison. Doctors provide medical follow-up for prisoners regardless of their detention regime.

Specialized consultations (ENT, ophthalmology, dermatology, radiology, physiotherapy, gynecology, functional rehabilitation, visceral surgery, epidemiology, infectious diseases) are provided. Dental care is available on site.

Since consultations cannot be provided at the unit, detainees are referred to the specialized services of the Caen Normandy University Hospital.

Prevention and health education actions are being implemented with the Probation and Reintegration Service (SPIP).

The biological tests are carried out and sent to the relevant laboratories at the University Hospital.

Nursing staff respond to requests for care both on the premises, in the unit, and in cells in case of emergency. The administrative office facilitates communication with the various stakeholders and departments of the University Hospital.
