    Training

    University integration

    • You will be automatically enrolled at the Faculty of Health Sciences in Caen, in the Bachelor of Science in Healthcare, in accordance with the decree of May 11, 2020, which specifies the procedures for university integration of paramedical training. (The pilot program will end in the 2026 academic year. A project is currently under consideration for the next academic year.)
    • This degree complements the professional state diploma, which it cannot replace, and therefore does not, on its own, authorize you to practice your chosen profession. You will thus obtain a dual degree upon completion of your studies: a Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences, specializing in Nursing Sciences, and a State Diploma in Medical and Environmental Engineering ( MEM).
    • Enrolling in our institute will automatically enroll you in this license program without any further steps.
    • The institute will remain your point of contact for any questions regarding your studies.

    Innovative teaching methods

    The Medical Electroradiology Technician program at the paramedical campus of the Caen Normandy University Hospital wanted to develop active teaching methods such as simulation by offering multiple scenarios:

    • Simulations using scenarios to support discussions and reflections on patient care in a given situation.
    • Simulations on basic (low fidelity) allowing training in professional procedures (sampling, injections at peripheral sites or implanted ports, catheterization, cardiac massage)
    • Standardized patients: These are simulated patients or role-playing scenarios that allow for interaction between caregivers and patients. The aim is to develop technical interpersonal skills in scripted situations (initial interviews, crisis management, etc.). These simulations take place either in the practical training room at the PFRS ( Faculty of Clinical Sciences and Techniques) or in the examination rooms of the University Hospital and the François Baclesse Center, in order to immerse students in the real-life conditions of an examination room.
    • Interactive mannequin simulation: The goal is to place learners in evolving situations, to mobilize their knowledge, and to acquire skills. The partnership with the university hospital's simulation laboratory allows students to practice real-life patient care simulations.
    Training

    A wide range of high-quality educational support…

    The training is provided by health professionals who are state-certified Medical Electroradiology Technicians, who have varied professional experience and university qualifications: University Diplomas, Bachelor's degrees, Master's degrees.

    Permanent instructors work in collaboration with university professors and field professionals. Since 2013, students have benefited from a university digital platform that allows them to access educational content remotely.

    A system to help people succeed

    Each student is monitored throughout the 3 years of study by a designated training manager who guides them in acquiring their skills.

    Structured sessions in small groups allow students to share their experiences and work on areas where they encounter difficulties. These sessions are led by instructors from the Medical Electroradiology Technician program at the paramedical campus.

    A peer mentoring system for first-year undergraduate students, paired with second-year students, aims to support new students at the start of their studies, facilitating their integration into the institute and a better adaptation to the required working methods. Regular review sessions of this program are organized by the teaching staff.

    Assessment methods: Individual or group

    Online assessments, online assignment submissions, in-class assignments, oral presentations of work, simulated situations.

    Integrated program within a paramedical campus

    The Medical Electroradiology Technician program at the University Hospital's paramedical campus is part of a training cluster that includes:

    • Initial training courses : ambulance drivers, nursing assistants, nurses;
    • Specialty training courses: nurse anesthetists, operating room nurses, pediatric nurses;
    • Healthcare management training;
    • Medical training: medicine, pharmacy, midwifery, speech therapy.

    The grouping of these training courses on a single site “Health Training and Research Center (PFRS)” makes it possible to develop shared and innovative educational activities: multi-professional teaching and internships.

    The Medical Electroradiology Technician program at the paramedical campus has training rooms equipped with the computer equipment necessary for the implementation of training activities using teaching methods that incorporate new technologies.

    Students have access to Wifi access points, and the necessary equipment for carrying out educational activities and access to the entire network of libraries at the University of Caen Normandy.

    Access to the Collegium platform of the University of Normandy Caen facilitates the online posting of content, access to a forum dedicated to training and the carrying out of collaborative online activities.

    The courses are organized in one location at the PFRS. The building is accessible to people with disabilities, and a disability liaison officer is also available at the paramedical training center (contact details available on request from the institute's secretariat).

    Imaging

    Professional and diverse internship opportunities…

    Students at the institute benefit from numerous internship opportunities in the departments of the University Hospital, but also in peripheral public or private hospitals, clinics and polyclinics, cancer centers and private imaging centers.

    The Medical Electroradiology Technician program manages student placements. Placement schedules are offered based on available resources and the required distribution of placements across the six semesters. These schedules may be regularly adjusted based on feedback from academic advisors and specific objectives expressed by students.

    A traineeship allowance and a reimbursement of travel expenses are paid in accordance with the decree of December 16, 2020 relating to traineeship allowances paid to students enrolled in training institutes.
