The profession
The practice of the nursing profession….
Legislative changes (law of June 27, 2025, decree of December 24, 2025, orders of June 26, 2026) make the new nursing skills operational, thus recognizing 4 main areas of action:
- Clinical evaluation;
- The nursing consultation;
- Nursing diagnosis;
- The nurse's prescription.
This helps to secure the daily practice of nursing professionals, to redefine the scope of acts and care carried out autonomously and thus strengthens access and continuity of care for patients.
The nurse's role is now defined by an autonomous, responsible, and decision-making clinical position within a secure framework, thereby granting them legitimacy in:
- His assessment and analysis of care situations;
- His clinical decision-making;
- Its organization and adaptation of personal care;
- Its interdisciplinary collaboration and coordination.
The new definition of the profession aims to address the following challenges:
- Constantly evolving health needs;
- The changing nature of professional practices.
Nurses work in hospital settings (hospitals, clinics), in extra-hospital settings (nurseries, schools and universities, businesses, retirement homes), in private practice (care centers, homes), and on humanitarian missions.
The scope of practice for nurses is very broad. They work primarily in the health sector, but also in the social and educational sectors, whether in the public, private or independent sectors.
