    Innovative teaching methods

    Developing skills through simulation

    Within the framework of the training program, the use of active learning methods, such as simulation in healthcare, is recommended. The Medical Assistant ( MAR) at the Caen University Hospital's paramedical campus sought to develop this method, which is based on reflection and the ethical principle of "never the first time on a patient " [1] . The aim is to acquire skills, procedures, and knowledge, and to develop cooperation among multiple professionals (multidisciplinary approach). Errors are not penalized but shared and analyzed, thus becoming a catalyst for professional reflection and learning.

    Based on the simulation typology, we propose the following scenarios:

    • Written simulations based on concrete cases or scenarios supporting discussions and reflections on the care of a patient in a given situation;
    • Simulations on basic mannequins (low fidelity) allowing training in professional gestures (gestures and emergency care...);
    • Standardized patients: these are simulated patients or role-playing games allowing for caregiver-patient interaction. The aim is to develop technical relational skills in scripted situations;
    • Simulation of typical calls received in a medical reception and regulation center located within the SAMU (

    To carry out these sessions, we have 7 practical work rooms equipped with low and medium fidelity mannequins, a computer room equipped with business software for ARM (RRAMU: Regional Network of Emergency Medical Assistance) as well as a simulation room allowing recording and live transmission in the debriefing room.

    Training

    A wide range of high-quality educational support

    The training is provided by qualified Medical Regulation Assistant trainers.

    Permanent trainers work in collaboration with teachers from other paramedical training programs and field professionals ( ARM and emergency physicians working within a medical reception and regulation center located in the SAMU ).

    Students benefit from:

    • a computer room equipped with RRAMU (Regional Emergency Medical Assistance Network) software in “training” mode for practical work and simulated scenarios.
    • a digital platform (THEIA) which allows them access to educational content remotely.

    A system to help people succeed

    The teaching team's mission is to enable students in training to become competent professionals by obtaining the State Diploma, to build their professional identity, develop their potential, acquire tools, and consolidate their career plan

    We want you to be a proactive in building your career plan, ensuring you develop the skills to become an ARM (Auxiliary Medical Regimen). The link between skills development and clinical training is formalized through individualized educational support.

    A personalized training can be offered to each student who experiences learning difficulties or fails to comply with internal regulations . With the necessary adjustments, its aim is to promote quality support and progress throughout the training program.

    Evaluation methods

    Validation of the training is based on a system of continuous assessment.

    For each block, an initial assessment test is organized followed by a second session, called a make-up session, for candidates who did not pass the first one.

    Assessment methods: Individual or group, online submission of assignments, in-class assignments, oral presentations (in groups or individually) of work, simulated situations, analysis of clinical situations.

    School integrated into a health training center…

    CFARM is part of a training cluster that includes :

    • Initial training programs : nurse, ambulance driver, nursing assistant, medical radiographer
    • Specialty training programs : operating room nurse, nurse anesthetist, pediatric nurse
    • the training of healthcare managers
    • Medical training : medicine, pharmacy, midwifery, speech therapy

    Bringing these courses together on a single site allows for the development of shared and innovative educational activities: multi-professional teaching and internships.

    The building is accessible to people with disabilities. A disability liaison officer is in contact with all training facilities. Students concerned can contact her through the school office.
