The profession
The ambulance attendant
Order of 11 April 2022 relating to the training leading to the State Diploma of Ambulance Technician and the training conditions of the ambulance assistant
Article 2 – The ambulance attendant is authorized to drive the light medical transport vehicle and the ambulance. He may also be the ambulance driver's partner in the ambulance.
The professional holding the position of ambulance attendant must have:
- A driving licence that is not subject to a probationary period, complies with current regulations and is valid;
- From the prefectural certificate of fitness to drive an ambulance after a medical examination carried out under the conditions defined in article R.221-10 of the highway code;
- A medical certificate of no contraindications to the profession of ambulance driver issued by an approved doctor (absence of locomotor, psychological problems, of a disability incompatible with the profession: visual, auditory disability, amputation of a limb…);
- A medical certificate of vaccinations in accordance with Article L.3111-4 of the Public Health Code;
- A certificate of 70 hours of training with assessment of acquired skills.

The Training
Approval and operating license
The ambulance attendant training program at the Caen University Hospital's paramedical campus is authorized by the President of the Normandy Regional Council ambulance attendant training session . It is headed by a director, approved by the President of the Normandy Region , who is responsible for accreditations and operating licenses for the school.
There are 3 sessions per year.
We are QUALIOPI certified
AFNOR certifies that the University Hospital of CAEN has been deemed to comply with the requirements for carrying out training activities.
Entry into training
Applications are processed in chronological order of arrival at the IFA (whether submitted in person or by mail) , with the official registration opening date being the determining factor. Applications are then sorted by the applicant's age, from oldest to youngest.
Seats can be reserved:
- For candidates on fixed-term contracts as drivers at the time of registration and who can provide proof of employment upon completion of training,
- To candidates on AFPR, POEI contracts….
- For candidates undergoing professional retraining and who can demonstrate a job offer upon completion of training.
The number of places reserved can range from 3 to a maximum of 5. Interested candidates must contact the secretariat as soon as possible and before submitting their application.
Unsuccessful applications are filed away. In the event of a withdrawal, a place may be offered. Candidates not selected will be given priority for the next session, provided they confirm in writing their continued interest within the given deadline. Each candidate will receive a letter indicating their ranking and the reply slip.
Training objectives
In accordance with the decree of April 11, 2022 relating to the training leading to the State diploma of ambulance driver and the training conditions of the ambulance assistant, the training lasts 91 hours .
Art. 2 – This training covers hygiene, professional principles and values, the relational approach towards team members and patients, ergonomic principles and appropriate gestures and postures during mobilizations, walking aids, movements and carrying or stretcher transport, and the rules of medical transport.
Training and Disability
In accordance with the law of February 11, 2005 for equal rights and opportunities, participation and citizenship of disabled persons, the principles of non-discrimination and accessibility are applied to training.

Points to consider:
There is no obligation for the student to disclose their disability status to their training institution, whether at the time of the competition or during their studies.
The disability status of a candidate or student is confidential, even if it may be subject to a secret shared between professionals in the training structure.
Funding
The training costs 1215 euros.
Since January 1, 2022, training is no longer eligible for CPF funding at the IFA of the Caen University Hospital.

- 70-hour theoretical and practical training course
- A training course to ensure the teaching of level 2 emergency procedures and care, lasting 21 hours.
That's 91 hours of training in total.
Training within a school integrated into a health training center
All teaching is organized at the PFRS .
The building is accessible to people with disabilities. A disability liaison officer is present at the paramedical training center (contact details available on request from the school secretariat) .
Certification procedures
The training does not lead to a diploma. Students must obtain a score of 10 out of 20 or higher on the written assessment to receive a training certificate and the AFGSU level 2 qualification. The written assessment lasts one hour.
