a world first on concussions in young hockey players

Ice hockey is a demanding and spectacular sport, but it exposes young players to significant risks to their brains. Repeated impacts, even without visible symptoms, can cause lasting alterations in brain function. Yet, current concussion detection tools still rely on clinical observation, which is often delayed or inaccurate.

The project, conducted jointly by the Caen University Hospital, the Caen Drakkars club (U15 and U18 teams) and the innovative Swiss company Bearmind, is the first study in the world to objectively and continuously measure the cranial impacts suffered by young athletes throughout a full hockey season.
