Improving access to healthcare for people
with disabilities
A strong commitment
Ensuring equitable, appropriate, and respectful access to healthcare for all is a priority for the Caen Normandy University Hospital. In this endeavor, the institution fully embraces the values of the Romain Jacob Charter and supports the Handifaction program.
A major public health issue
People with disabilities may encounter specific difficulties in their healthcare journey: accessibility of facilities, communication with healthcare professionals, adaptation of examinations, waiting times, or coordination of care. These observations call for collective action to sustainably improve the quality of reception and care.
The Romain Jacob Charter
The Caen Normandy University Hospital is a signatory of the Romain Jacob Charter, a national charter aimed at improving access to care and health for people with disabilities. It affirms the right of every person to be an active participant in their own health and recognizes the essential role of caregivers.
The commitments of the Charter are based in particular on:
- the adaptation of healthcare organizations;
- training and awareness-raising for professionals;
- improving the coordination of healthcare pathways;
- taking into account the specific needs related to disability.
Handifaction
Handifaction is a national questionnaire for people with disabilities and their caregivers. It can be completed after a medical appointment, consultation, or hospitalization, or if you encounter any difficulties.
The responses collected make it possible to identify the strengths and areas for improvement in care pathways, within a framework of continuous quality improvement.
Why answer the Handifaction questionnaire?
- Expressing one's experience and feelings;
- To contribute to the improvement of professional practices;
- Participate in a national collective initiative to promote access to healthcare.
