Presentation of the Center

The Normandy Regional Psychotrauma Centre for Children and Adolescents opened its doors in September 2024. Our centre has an integrated mission of care, training, and continuous improvement of practices in the management of mental disorders related to psychotrauma in the Normandy region.

It is a team composed of 2 psychologists.

What steps should I take?

If the trauma occurred less than a month, please contact CUMP 14 at 02 31 30 92 05.

If you require care for your child or teenager, please contact us at 02.31.27.23.13 (press 1). You will complete a questionnaire over the phone with the receptionist to clarify your request and ensure it aligns with our care services.

Next, an appointment with a psychotherapist will be scheduled to complete a standardized assessment following international recommendations.

Based on this assessment, a diagnosis can be made and treatment offered in the following months.

What is trauma?

Something serious has happened:

  • Physical assault
  • Sexual violence
  • Road accident
  • Domestic violence
  • Witness to suicide
  • Witness to a violent death or serious accident

A month later, I'm still feeling unwell:

  • Nightmares, disturbed sleep
  • Images that appear at any moment
  • Avoidance of places, thoughts, emotions
  • Startle reflexes, hypervigilance
  • Anxiety, fear
  • ….

This could be a sign of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Don't suffer from these debilitating symptoms that disrupt your daily life: specialized professionals can help!

What care is available?

Extended Exposure (EP)

Prolonged exposure therapy is a protocol-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) approach, the goal of which is to understand and identify avoidance reactions following trauma, which is the main factor in maintaining PTSD.

The EP program consists of 7 to 15 weekly 1-hour sessions

Cognitive Process Therapy (CPT)

Cognitive process therapy is a protocol-based therapy of the CBT, which relies on in-depth cognitive work concerning beliefs and thoughts related to trauma and its consequences.

The TPC takes place over 12 weekly sessions of approximately 1 hour each

Complicated Grief Therapy (CGT)

Complicated grief therapy is a manual cognitive behavioral therapy. Its goal is to identify the thoughts and behaviors that prevent the grieving process from being fully integrated. In therapy, we will work on these blockages to allow the grieving process to resume its course.

The CGT meeting takes place over 16 weekly 1-hour sessions

Written Exposure Therapy (WET)

Like EP, WET helps the patient combat avoidance of thoughts and emotions related to the trauma. The patient is gradually and supervisedly re-exposed to their fears through writing.

The WET consists of 5 weekly 1-hour sessions
