    Virological diagnosis

This activity brings together all the requests for Medical virology: virological analyzes in hospitalized patients or consultants at the University Hospital and specialized virological analyzes requested for public hospitals, clinics and medical analysis laboratories.

It includes the direct search for viruses as well as the detection of the corresponding antibodies. The infectious agents concerned are:

    • HIV and HTLV retroviruses ,
    • hepatitis viruses A, B, C, D, E,
    • viral meningitis and encephalitis viruses (enterovirus, herpes, etc.) ,
    • respiratory viruses: influenza and parainfluenza virus, RSV , adenovirus, rhinovirus, coronavirus,
    • Eruptive fever viruses: measles, rubella, herpes, chickenpox, parvovirus B 19, human herpes type 6,
    • lymphotropic herpesviruses: cytomegalovirus, Epstein Barr, herpes 6, papillomavirus and poliomavirus.
Treatment of clinical samples containing pathogens at risk

It is carried out in an approved type P3 laboratory, with a level of containment capable of treating biological pathogens of groups 2, 3 and 4.

    Clinical research

Research activity is essentially oriented towards respiratory infections (influenza, RSV , human coronaviruses, rhinoviruses and adenoviruses, chlamydia pneumoniae and mycoplasma pneumoniae infections) and viral infections transmitted from mother to child and occurring in the immunocompromised subject (cytomegalovirus, Epstein Barr) .

    It relates in particular to:

    • the development of molecular tools ( PCR , real-time PCR for the search for viral genomes,
    • molecular epidemiological study and genetic variability for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), coronaviruses, adenoviruses and rhinoviruses,
    • the study of the impact on the pathology of new infectious agents: coronavirus, rhinovirus, Respiratory Syncytial Virus in the elderly,
    • congenital transmission of cytomegalovirus infection.
