The service performs interventions by conventional (thoracotomy, sternotomy) and also minimally invasive (thoracoscopy and robot-assisted surgery) approaches , for pulmonary, pleural or mediastinal pathologies.

Practitioners work in close collaboration with the pulmonology departments of the region and take part in the Multidisciplinary Consultation Meetings for thoracic oncology at the CHU Caen Normandie and the Center for the Fight Against Cancer François Baclesse . They also regularly participate in RCPs on the management of thymic tumors ( RCP RYTHM IC ) , or in regional referral RCPs ( RCP Sarcoma, RCP endometriosis)

The two practitioners in the department perform nearly 500 operations a year, including more than 200 major lung excisions (segmentectomies, lobectomies, bilobectomies or pneumonectomies) .
