      Diabetes care

The CHU Caen Normandie is the reference center in Diabetology for Western Normandy. The Endocrinology-Diabetology department provides outpatient and hospitalization care for all diabetological situations, particularly complex ones (diabetes technologies, metabolic and degenerative complications, diabetic foot wounds).

      Endocrinology Hospitalization · Diabetology

The Endocrinology · Diabetology department provides hospitalization for diabetic patients for:

      • detect micro and macrovascular complications
      • adapt therapy and, in particular, initiate insulin therapy, pump treatments and closed loop systems
      • treat acute metabolic complications (ketoacidosis, severe hypoglycaemia, hyperosmolarity)
      • manage complex diabetic foot wounds (multidisciplinary management with infectiologists, vascular doctors and surgeons)
      • offer therapeutic education carried out by nurses, dieticians and doctors

The Endocrinology-Diabetology department also allows the management of all endocrine pathologies, requiring complex assessments (biology, imaging, clinical expertise) , for example:

      • Pituitary adenoma
      • Hyperparathyroidism
      • Adrenal masses
      • Hypoglycaemia report
      • Endocrine genetic diseases
      The mobile team

This team, made up of a senior doctor, an intern and an education nurse, is called upon when diabetic patients are hospitalized in other departments in order to optimize glycemic control and ensure quality care.

The team also provides care for patients with gestational diabetes , through close follow-up in consultation, by telemedicine, and during hospitalization, in conjunction with the gynecology-obstetrics department.

The mobile team also gives advice on endocrine pathologies presented by patients hospitalized at the CHU.

      Consultations

The department provides diabetology and endocrinology consultations.

The ambulatory care unit allows daily reception of people living with diabetes for nursing consultations for therapeutic education and adjustment of insulin treatments.

Consultations dedicated to diabetic foot wounds take place three times a week provided by a doctor-nurse pair. They make it possible to coordinate care when recourse to other specialists (infectiologists, surgeons, functional rehabilitation physicians, dermatologists, angiologists, etc.) is necessary. A pedicure-podiatrist provides pedicure care at the same time.

      Transgender support

The multidisciplinary team supporting transidentity is made up of Dr Camille Delouche, psychiatrist, Dr Stéphanie Fezzoli, sexologist, Professor Yves Reznik and Dr Bleuenn Dreves , endocrinologists as well as Mr Vincent Bertauld, psychologist and network coordinator with Ms Mourier Mathilde.

The team works with those who have developed a gender identity in a way that does not correspond to their biological sex. The support offered covers assistance with administrative changes, prescription and follow-up of hormone therapy, psychological support, sexology consultation, coordination of fertility preservation or surgical projects with local or external resources and facilitation of discussion groups for patients and their families.
