“Case management”: the management method of the EMSI of the University Hospital of Caen Normandy

The EMSI offers early detection, assessment and intervention for young adults aged 16 to 30 at high risk of transition to psychosis or presenting with a first psychotic episode.

Early diagnosis makes it possible to quickly propose appropriate care promoting a favorable evolution.

Intensive care is offered by a multidisciplinary team over 2 years aimed at improving the functioning of the young person and restoring a satisfactory development trajectory.

“Case-management” care is personalized care that is intended to be positive, pro-active and constructive. It provides out-of-hospital care, by nature less traumatic and less stigmatizing, which makes it possible to work on the symptomatology of patients in their natural and social environment.

This type of intensive care is characterized by the mobility of the case manager who engages the patient and facilitates access to care from both the psychiatrist and the psychologist. They work together on the assimilation of the psychotic experience and on socio-professional reintegration. The patient can thus be seen several times a week by the case manager in a familiar environment such as school, university, public transport, or the city centre.
