      Activity

The addiction service is a level 3 university hospital service, regional referral service. It ensures a triple mission of care, teaching and research.

      • The care service is aimed at any patient with a psychoactive substance use disorder (alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, heroin, drugs diverted from their use and other illicit products) or a behavioral addiction.
The service also specializes in the assessment and management of cognitive disorders related to alcohol use disorder.
      • The service is also involved in teaching , internship field (medicine and pharmacy) , and internship.
The service performs an important educational function at local and regional level. The service provides all of the teaching of addictology in DFASM, and DES in psychiatry. He is very much involved in the coordination and courses of the DU in addictology. The department coordinates the FST for addiction on a regional basis.

      Appropriate multidisciplinary care

The addictology service offers multidisciplinary care to patients with use disorders of one or more psychoactive substances, or behavioral addiction.

Various types of care are offered, outpatient via outpatient consultation or residential via full hospitalization or day hospitalization.

Full-time hospitalization allows complex addiction treatment.

The care programs are based on psychoeducation and cognitive and behavioral therapies.

The service develops an original approach to the treatment of addictions by specifically taking into account the neuropsychological aspects of the disorders.

Most admissions are scheduled, based on consultations (external within the service, via the network's partner structures) , or following advanced medical consultations with patients hospitalized within the Caen University Hospital, thus helping to streamline the process. patient.

Hospitalized patients are admitted on the nature and severity of their disorders.

      Care activities

      Consultations

The consultation specializing in addictology is the first meeting between the patient and a member of the team (doctor or nurses trained in addictology) . It is a privileged and central moment in the care of the patient.

      Goals :

      • Assess the degree of severity of the use disorder
      • Evaluate the addiction project of each patient for the different substances consumed
      • Propose methods of care, hospitalization or outpatient follow-up
      • Ensure the follow-up of the patient's addiction project
      • Maintain the patient in post-hospitalization care

      Full-time hospitalization

Access to hospitalization is via an outpatient consultation within the service, via an addictions consultation carried out in an outpatient consultation center in the network or even via a transfer from a CHU service.

A visit to the unit is possible at any time prior to hospitalization in order to present the service.

Full-time hospitalization mainly accommodates patients for the realization of complex withdrawals, the implementation of Opiate Substitution Treatments in complex patients. At the end of this period, patients can benefit from a one-week psychoeducation module, in a group, then a module of the same format centered on the prevention of relapse.

These care modalities are available over several weeks, each care sequence proposal is discussed between the patient and the multidisciplinary team.

Hospitalization is subject to certain operating procedures; the service's welcome booklet is available on the site.

The sequences of specialized psychotherapeutic care are inspired by cognitive-behavioral therapies and are based on the principles of motivational interviewing. The workshops are given by all of the service's trades.

Various therapeutic approaches are offered: body-mediated therapy (relaxation, aesthetic care in the helping relationship, etc.) , virtual reality, group therapy (proposal to participate in a discussion group, etc.).

The service has national and international expertise in the evaluation and management of cognitive disorders linked to addictions. Screening +/- cognitive evaluation is systematically offered to patients.

For patients with cognitive disorders and/or a deterioration in general condition, a stay in an SMR (partner service) is recommended.

Social care can be offered to hospitalized patients to meet their needs.

      Day hospitalization

The day hospitalization of the addictology service has two different orientations and follows a full-time treatment. This method of hospitalization represents the interface between full hospitalization and return home, allowing support for the most vulnerable patients.

The first orientation, 3 days a week (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday) , is based on relapse prevention care within the framework of a personalized care program. It helps to support the patient in his addictological project (moderation or abstinence) , it follows the psycho-educational care carried out in full hospitalization.

The service also offers cognitive remediation workshops, two days a week (Tuesday and Friday) for patients with cognitive disorders.

        Discipline

Addictology is a promising discipline in terms of both clinical and basic research.

The department has been carrying out research projects for fifteen years. He recently approached the Neuroprésage team of the U1237 PhinD unit of Pr Vivien.

The research themes focus on neuropsychology, neuroimaging and cognitive remediation of cognitive disorders related to alcohol use disorder.

New projects aim to develop and evaluate innovative non-drug therapeutic tools (psychoeducation, adapted physical activity, virtual reality) and to clarify the profiles and mechanisms of cognitive and cerebral damage linked to alcohol and addictions.
