Facial clefts and deformities
At Caen Normandy University Hospital, children with cleft lip and palate are followed by a multidisciplinary team, which meets once a month. In a single consultation appointment, children and their parents benefit from the advice of around ten specialists : maxillofacial and ENT , orthodontist, child psychiatrist, geneticist, speech therapist and prosthetist.
During this interview, family and experts exchange information, deliberate and make a shared decision together. The different stages of the intervention are then programmed and synchronized.
This organization saves time for parents who previously had to meet each practitioner one by one, without possible direct consultation with all the stakeholders. The multidisciplinary nature of its consultations is therefore a plus for children and their families and for practitioners who compare and enrich their therapeutic strategy by consulting with peers. A dozen families are seen during these monthly consultations.
